il violino

and like a snake,

she coiled into the harmony of her instrument,

strumming away the music that commanded her,

she arched her back and curved her neck,

bowing and saluting the only lover she’d ever known,

translating her affections,

in the only syllables she knew of,

those of a fiddling force,

a force that tugged suddenly,

pulling at the strings of her heart,

revealing her bodily rhythm,

of the most high-pitched melody.
